Dried hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa, the calyx, sold as "roselle," "karkadé," or "flor de jamaica") has moved from a niche herbal-tea crop into a global functional ingredient used across: Beverages (iced tea, agua de Jamaica, kombucha, cocktail mixers) Nutraceuticals/supplements (antioxidant, blood-pressure-support claims) Functional foods (jams, syrups, natural colourants) Cosmetics (AHA-rich extracts, natural dyes) Global supply is concentrated in a handful of producing origins, while demand is broad and diversified across mature (US, Germany, Mexico) and emerging (Turkey, Peru) markets. Fresh hibiscus is not meaningfully traded internationally, it's too perishable, so essentially all cross-border trade is in dried calyx form (whole, cut/sifted, or powdered).
